Location and trusts

NHS England Yorkshire and the Humber region covers a large geographical area, encompassing eastern coastal resorts, the Yorkshire Dales, and the Peak District; hence the region is often sub-divided into three smaller geographical areas:

East - based around the busy, interesting cities of Hull and York and the teaching hospitals therein, and the district hospitals of Scarborough, Scunthorpe and Grimsby.

West - based either in Leeds or Bradford Teaching Hospitals, with rotations in Halifax, Huddersfield, Airedale and Harrogate.

South - South Yorkshire programmes are based in the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust and the surrounding district general hospitals (Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster & Bassetlaw).

Life in the region

North & East Rotation

Hull and York are thriving university cities with excellent shopping and leisure facilities including concert halls, theatres and the largest aquarium in Europe. It is surrounded by attractive villages and countryside with the many famous and iconic places such as York Minster, Beverley Minster, The Deep in Hull, Harrogate Flower Show and Scarborough beach. It is within easy reach of the North Yorkshire Moors and Dales and the East Coast. It has excellent road and rail links with the rest of Britain, as well as ferry and air links to Europe.

South Yorkshire

Sheffield and the surrounding area is a great place to live. Sheffield is a green and vibrant city and boasts a lively night life, cultural events, shopping and outstanding sporting facilities. Sheffield and the surrounding towns are situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park popular with enthusiasts of walking, climbing and cycling.

Leeds/Bradford

Both Leeds and Bradford are very exciting cities with Leeds developing into the commercial capital of the north with the move of many corporate businesses into the area. Leeds boasts excellent entertainment facilities ranging from wonderful restaurants, shopping outlets, pubs and clubs. The surrounding market towns of Wakefield, Huddersfield and Halifax are more rural but offer equally attractive entertainment and give you the real experience of life in West Yorkshire.
